Diogo Jota has admitted that this season has been one of the toughest in his Liverpool career, as injuries have hampered both his fitness and form. The Portuguese forward has struggled for rhythm but remains determined to make a telling impact in the crucial final months of the campaign.
Jota’s season has been punctuated by injury setbacks, limiting him to 27 appearances across all competitions. With eight goals and three assists, his output has been solid, but far from the high standards he has set in previous years. A total of 15 games missed due to various fitness issues has forced Liverpool’s medical team to carefully manage his workload to ensure he remains available when needed most.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with PSG, Jota acknowledged his difficulties this season:
“It’s been a difficult season for me personally. I’ve had a few complications throughout the season.”
“Obviously these last couple of months are the ones that matter the most, where you decide things. I don’t feel I’m in my best form at the moment, but certainly, by playing, I will get there. And I always try to do my best, no matter what.”
Jota’s importance to Liverpool cannot be overstated. His ability to press, link up play, and contribute defensively makes him a key asset in Arne Slot’s attacking setup. However, finding his best form requires game time and consistency, something that has eluded him this season.
When asked when he last felt at his peak, Jota reflected on the unpredictable nature of form:
“I don’t know, obviously sometimes you can have bad games, sometimes you can also have good games. When you get the form you are talking about, it’s like when you have a certain amount of games.”
While Jota is a natural goalscorer, he emphasised that his role extends beyond finding the net. He remains focused on contributing in every aspect of the game:
“As long as you keep being useful to the team, that’s the most important thing.”
“Sometimes, not only the stats but the way you can connect to your teammates and the way you can help the team defensively and how you can help the team get the win, that’s what I try to do every time I’m on the pitch.”
With Liverpool still in contention for major honours, Jota knows he has a vital role to play. He is eager to return to his sharpest and make a difference in Liverpool’s pursuit of silverware.
“As a striker, I want to get involved in scoring goals and creating those opportunities, and every game is a new opportunity to do that.”
As Liverpool gear up for the business end of the season, Jota’s fitness and form could be key in their push for success.
