Mohamed Salah is coming off the back of one of the greatest individual seasons of all time, scoring 29 goals and assisting 18. However, Liverpool have just learnt their Mohamed Salah AFCON fate, as the Egyptian will be away for a short period over December and January.
The Premier League fixtures have now been announced, so the Reds can start planning for life, albeit weeks without their star man up front. Here is every game he could miss.
AFCON 2025 will take place from December 21, 2025, up until January 18, 2026. This means if Egypt makes it to the final, the No. 11 could be away for a full month. Here are the games he will be guaranteed to miss, as long as he makes the Egyptian squad for the tournament:
All these games take place during the group stage of AFCON 2025, but if Egypt progress further, he could also miss the following:
The Premier League isn’t the only competition Liverpool are in, so Mohamed Salah could miss even more games. Here is what he could miss:
Liverpool have plenty of firepower up top, but losing Mohamed Salah for a possible 9 games is a major loss. The club has signed Jeremie Frimpong, and Wirtz looks set to sign, which couldn’t limit the negatives. Frimpong could be used on the right wing, an area of the pitch he knows well at Leverkusen; meanwhile, the German could offset the loss of creativity from Salah.
Diogo Jota could also fill in out on the right, but we still do not know the future of his time at Anfield; meanwhile, Ben Doak is subject to interest from multiple Premier League teams. Additionally, Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott seem set to leave the club, making the Reds quite light in that position come December and January.
The logical move does seem to be Frimpong, with Conor Bradley at right-back behind him. But we will have to wait and see how Arne Slot reacts to losing his star man.
Either way, the Reds won’t be the only club who will be left short
