Arne Slot has very few injury worries on his plate

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have started their Premier League campaign with a near-spotless bill of health.

Jeremie Frimpong and Alexis Mac Allister are now the only players in the squad thought to be dealing with issues.

Mac Allister, meanwhile, was a surprise omission from the squad to face Newcastle after he was hurt in training midweek.

Liverpool were boosted in the Newcastle tie, though, by the returns of Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley.

Neither were fit to start, but Bradley came off the bench with 80 minutes played, replacing Florian Wirtz. Gomez remained on the bench, and Slot said ahead of kick-off that he would have been fit to play 20 minutes at most.

They also came out of the match with no new issues, which is more than Newcastle could say. They saw Fabian Schar, Sandro Tonali, and Joelinton leave the pitch with injuries.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Liverpool injury news.

Jeremie Frimpong

Jeremie Frimpong remains sidelined with a hamstring issue.

He had hit the ground running after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen, but he was sidelined after his first Premier League appearance.

After being forced into shuttle runs while defending Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, he was substituted with a sore hamstring.

“It wasn’t out of luxury,” Slot explained. “Jeremie Frimpong felt his hamstring at half-time and made a lot of sprints.”

He did not return to the Liverpool squad for Monday’s visit to Newcastle, but, as his injury is not thought to be severe, he could soon be back in action.

Alexis Mac Allister

Alexis Mac Allister missed much of pre-season as he dealt with an injury picked up late last season.

He had started against Bournemouth in the first week of the season, but was absent for the Newcastle clash after withdrawing from training in midweek.

Slot has confirmed the injury is not serious, though, and hopes he can return in time to face Arsenal.

“He had to leave the training pitch two days ago adn that would not even be the biggest problem if he would have had a proper pre-season, but he missed so many weeks.

"There you bring the base for the whole season and you can see these intensity levels, like we faced last week and this topped it up 10 times, I think.

"Then you need to be so, so, so fit and then it is always a risk if you bring a player that had a pre-season like this, had to go out two days ago in a training session, in this environment.

"With such a long season to go, it was too much of a risk for me but I am hoping, hoping things in the upcoming one or two days so that he is available for Sunday."
