There are changes taking place across Liverpool’s frontline during this summer’s transfer window. It looks like Darwin Nunez will be on his way out - and Alexander Isak is now emerging as the chief candidate to replace the Uruguayan.
On the wings Federico Chiesa and Ben Doak have been tipped to leave - potentially adding around £45m to Liverpool’s transfer funds.
And while uncertainty remains over Luis Diaz, the fact remains that he is STILL a Liverpool player. If no bid materialises that matches Liverpool’s valuation then he will be staying.
The attack has already been improved by the addition of Florian Wirtz.
The German international can play left or centre - and will be responsible for playmaking duties. Once a centre-forward is added, Liverpool’s attacking options will look well stocked. You will see Diaz and Cody Gakpo again push one another on the left.
But what about the right wing?
If Chiesa and Doak leave, won’t that require Mohamed Salah to play every single minute considering there’s no adequate back-up? And in a season where the Egyptian King could miss 10 matches for the Africa Cup of Nations, that is hardly ideal.
Not so.
Because Liverpool have signed a £29.5m winger to push Salah and deputise when he’s not around. Jeremie Frimpong, 24, has been discussed more as a right wing-back or even a right-back ever since being first linked with the Reds.
He played wing-back expertly under Xabi Alonso but has ALSO featured further forward for club and country. And the latest report from the Athletic suggests that he will be used primarily as a right winger by Arne Slot too.
“The Premier League champions have prioritised an elite front three in recent seasons, with two strong options in each position,” the report states.
“While on the left (Luiz Diaz and Cody Gakpo) and right (Mohamed Salah and Jeremie Frimpong) they have that available to them, they currently do not have an established first choice in the middle.
“Federico Chiesa is considered an option there, but Napoli and Al Hilal have been keeping tabs on Darwin Nunez. It is expected that a move for him will progress again soon.”

Hidden among that passage is that Frimpong will play right wing. It would be asking a lot to replace Salah - especially since the 33-year-old has agreed a new contract.
But given his advancing age - as well as his workload - don’t be surprised to see Salah taken off more frequently next season.
Liverpool occasionally required more from Salah in the closing stages of last season - don’t forget his long streak without a goal involvement and his sub-par performances in games against Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle.
