Liverpool have narrowed their focus to three options in the club’s pursuit of a centre-forward this summer.
Arne Slot has invested around £169.5m in his squad this summer with the additions of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, though further signings are expected.
In addition to a central defender, the Premier League champions want to add a high-profile number nine. Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Anfield and the club’s shortlist of potential replacements has been decided.
Alexander Isak is the dream target for the Reds, though prising the forward from Newcastle United will be no easy task.
Newcastle have no intention of selling the Sweden international, who is contracted until 2028, and any potential deal would likely surpass the British transfer record. Isak is yet to sign a new deal at Newcastle, despite talks, and Liverpool are monitoring his situation at St James’ Park.
Sky Germany are reporting that Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike remains an option. Chelsea and Arsenal have also checked on the 22-year-old, who scored 22 goals in all competitions last season. However, Frankfurt are under no pressure to sell and value Ekitike at €100m (£85m).
The third concrete option for Liverpool is Victor Osimhen. The Nigeria international has returned to Napoli after a loan spell at Galatasaray, in which the forward scored 37 goals in 41 games.
Osimhen has a release clause of €75m (£64m) in his contract and Napoli are keen to offload the player. Napoli’s interest in Liverpool duo Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa could also help facilitate a deal.
Osimhen rejected a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal earlier in the window and is keen to remain in Europe. European sides are yet to meet the demands of either Napoli or Osimhen, though Galatasaray are pushing for a permanent transfer.
