The transfer window has closed but Liverpool are already working on their next deal.

Richard Hughes is not sitting back and relaxing after a long three months. The club's sporting director has done everything right and has secured what on papers looks like the best window of all time for the Reds.

Obviously, whether that is truly the case will only come to light in the next few seasons when we see these players in action and seeing whether they can live up to the expectations on them.

But on the surface, bringing in players like Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike all in one summer seems like a brilliant piece of business.

In the end, there was a bitter blow with Marc Guehi's move falling through at the final hurdle. But overall, what a summer it has been.

And as we said, Hughes is not about to stop - he's already working on the club's next move.

Undoubtedly, Liverpool are going to be going back in for Guehi at some point in the next twelve months. Whether that's in January to sign him for a cut-price or on a free transfer next summer remains to be seen.

But he's not the only England international Hughes wants to bring to Anfield.

According to Indy Kalia, Liverpool are also set to enter negotiations with Aston Villa in the 'coming months' in order to sign Morgan Rogers after agreeing to sanction a loan deal with an obligation to buy for £35m for Harvey Elliott.

The England international midfielder is very highly rated by the club's scouts and the Reds are big admirers of the player who made 30 goal contributions for Aston Villa last season.

Elliott's £35m fee seems like a bargain for Villa considering Liverpool valued him at £50m. But this might have been a calculated 'kindness' from Hughes.

Ultimately, the Elliott deal builds bridges with Villa and it ensures that when it comes to negotiations for Rogers Liverpool should also be able to secure a deal that is favourable for everyone.

In terms of Liverpool's midfield and attack, Rogers could be the missing piece. He could play in the no.10 role, possibly even as a no.8 and on top of that he's capable of playing as a winger on either side as well.

Liverpool need to add more homegrown options to their ranks in the coming years, so going for Guehi and Rogers in the next window would make sense.

It definitely feels like based on the above report, that is what Hughes has in mind. Let's see how these negotiations with Rogers go down in the coming months ahead.
