Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has hit out at criticism aimed at him from former Red Devils midfielder Paul Scholes.
Scholes has not shied away from voicing his concerns with United, both as a club and as a squad of players, recently arguing they could be relegated as early as next season if they fail to pull of a huge overhaul in the summer transfer market.
One United player singled out for criticism was Martinez, who Scholes argued was not good enough to be part of a title-winning side "even when fit".
Taking to social media in response, Martinez wrote: "This jinx guy is really hurting... You put him in Argentina, and he wouldn't survive."
Martinez was not alone in taking aim at Scholes, whose recent comments on Everton loanee Neal Maupay attracted a response from the Frenchman himself.
Scholes claimed Maupay "just takes the p**s" when asked why the striker's use of James Maddison's darts celebration was not the same as Myles Lewis-Skelly's copying of Erling Haaland after Arsenal's 5-1 win over Manchester City.
Maupay caught wind of the video and opted to poke fun at another viral clip of Scholes from 2021 in which he sucked the toes of his daughter.
"Surprised Paul Scholes can fit my name in his mouth alongside his daughter's toes," Maupay wrote.
