According to Manchester Evening News, Lille midfielder Angel Gomes (24) has a long-term ambition to return to Manchester United.
The newly-capped England international has received lots of praise after being named in Lee Carsley’s first squad as England manager. Gomes graduated as a member of the Manchester United academy when he was 16 as he replaced Wayne Rooney as an 88th-minute substitute against Crystal Palace in 2017. Despite becoming the youngest player to represent the Red Devils for 65 years, things didn’t go as planned for the 24-year-old at Old Trafford.
Gomes left the Premier League outfit in 2020 to join Les Dogues before being loaned to ex-sister club Boavista. Fast forward 4 years, the midfielder’s contract is set to expire in 2025 and in January clubs from abroad can negotiate a pre-contract agreement. With the former Boavista loanee targeting a potential return to Manchester, the opportunity could present itself for a free transfer in January.
