Liverpool have been in strong form this season but had the weekend off, so they’ll enter their first-leg matchup against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes either well-rested or possibly a little rusty.

Before focusing on the Champions League, Liverpool played one last Premier League match midweek, beating Newcastle United 2-0 at Anfield on Wednesday. They’ll look to carry that momentum into Paris.

PSG, on the other hand, also had an impressive performance, defeating LOSC Lille 4-1, with all four goals coming in the first half. Still, one ESPN pundit believes that a specific area of the pitch will determine who advances to the quarterfinals.

On Monday’s ESPN FC, the program was previewing the first leg and Frank Leboeuf noted that the midfield will determine who wins the tie between these two clubs who lead their respective leagues.

“In the middle of the park, I think you will have [Joao] Neves,” Leboeuf said. “Vitinha is going to come back; he was just rested. And [Warren] Zaire-Emery, the little diamond who just came back from injury.

“Those three players, they are like dogs. When they bite you, they never let go. And on top of that, they are technically very, very good.

“The middle of the park is going to be a real battle, and the team that wins that battle is going to go through. Even if I put Liverpool as favorites, it’s not going to be easy for me.”

Arne Slot and his team head into this match unbeaten in their last five, with three wins and two draws. On the other hand, Luis Enrique and his squad are on a 10-match winning streak and haven’t lost in 22 games across all competitions.
