GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle, and sub-editors Raphaël Jucobin and Bastien Cheval face off in our Ligue 1 predictions competition. This season, GFFN will also be hosting guests. Last week, The Athletic’s Alex Barker participated and is the first name on our guest leaderboard. It’s three points for a correct score, two points for a correct score difference, and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

The Choc des Olympiques is always a feisty and often unpredictable affair. Both sides come into this one off the back of wins. Lyon have won their first two, keeping two clean sheets in the process. Paulo Fonseca is doing what he did so well at Lille in building a stable base from which to build. Despite a difficult summer transfer window with numerous departures, this team is cohesive and has retained its attacking flair, despite the departures of Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette over the summer. Malick Fofana still remains at the club, and OL will be desperate for it to remain that way, in a sporting sense, even though funds must be raised before the closure of the transfer window. He netted in the 3-0 win over Metz last weekend and is in top form. At home once again this week, they should be able to get at this Marseille side, who have already conceded three goals, including two against Paris FC last weekend. Their high line and lack of coordination at the back is causing them problems, and it could be their achilles heel against a side that are even more armed to exploit it.
Marseille, in an attacking sense, looked a lot better against Paris FC. The fluidity and incisiveness that were lacking against a 10-man Rennes a week prior had returned. A lot of expectations could be placed on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s shoulders this season. He was prolific in his one and only season at OM two years ago, and now, having returned one year later, he doesn’t look to have lost that. He netted twice and was as instinctive as always. There will be goals in this team, and from multiple sources, but in these big games, the bigger question will be their capacity to keep balls out of the net at the other end. Still without Facundo Medina and with CJ Egan-Riley still finding his feet in new surroundings, the defence remains a weakness to be exploited.
