Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi returned to Glastonbury on Friday two years after he was forced to cut short his set at the iconic festival. The 28-year-old has 26.4m listeners on Spotify but has endured a difficult couple of years owing to his health.
Capaldi has endured a challenging two years since his emotional 2023 Glastonbury set, when Tourette’s and anxiety forced him to cut his performance short and announce an indefinite break. He spent months focusing on mental and physical health, guided by professionals, and paused touring into early 2024. On Friday, he triumphantly returned to the Pyramid Stage with a surprise set and released “Survive,” marking a powerful comeback after his self‑care hiatus.
The singer songwriter has made no secret of his love of Celtic, often being spotted wearing Celtic clothing and retro shirts. However, in a more subtle tribute, Capaldi had the four leaved clover on his guitar picks.
It is a subtle nod but there will likely be some more blatant tributes to the Scottish Champions in the set from Rod Stewart on Sunday. Although, a recent interview with the veteran rocker has gone down like a led balloon, suggesting that Rod is a million miles out of touch.
It is good to see Capaldi back doing what he loves. Hopefully he’ll be back at Celtic Park this season.
