The DFB has announced that Deniz Undav will not join up with the German national team this international break and will be replaced by Leroy Sané.
Undav was called up to the original squad but his fitness was in doubt having come off with an injury in VfB Stuttgart’s loss to Atalanta in midweek. The 28-year-old would then miss Stuttgart’s 3-2 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend with what is reported as a strain on his left thigh.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann has used the opportunity to call up Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sané. The winger has been absent from the national team since EURO 2024 as he has been struggling with fitness following an injury picked up over the summer.
In Undav’s place, Germany has Borussia Mönchengladbach Tim Kleindienst as well as Kai Havertz who can play as a striker.
In this international break, Germany rounded off their Nations League campaign with games against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Freiburg before they travel to Budapest to face Hungary. A win in either game would secure top spot for Germany in their group ahead of the quarter-final draw.
