Retired Italian defender Lele Adani noticed a common trend in this season’s three Derby della Madonnina clashes.

The Nerazzurri are bracing themselves for an electric few weeks which will begin with back-to-back contests against Fiorentina.

They will then clash heads with arch-rivals Juventus in the Derby d’Italia before playing Genoa, Lazio (in the Coppa Italia) and their direct Scudetto rivals Napoli. Hence, now would be the ideal time to plan a trip to Italy and reserve your tickets for one or more of these mouth-drooling contests.

Furthermore, Inter could meet one of their two biggest rivals in the Champions League round of 16.

Simone Inzaghi’s men have already booked their place in that stage of the tournament after finishing fourth in the group stage. Nevertheless, Juventus and Milan must go through the playoffs. They will face PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord respectively.

One of the winners of these two ties will advance to play the reigning Italian champions in the Round 16.

Hence, we could end up witnessing another two Derby d’Italia this season, or even better, two extra Derby della Madonnina.

That being said, the Inzaghi’s men found little joy against their neighbours this season.

Despite enduring a tough campaign, the Rossoneri have already beaten the Nerazzurri twice already. The first was under the tutelage of Paulo Fonseca back in October when Matteo Gabbia’s late winner settled the tie.

The second occasion ensued in Riyadh when Sergio Conceicao began his Milan experience by staging a sensational comeback from 0-2 down to 3-2, thus securing the Italian Super Cup trophy.

The Diavolo were close to sealing the hattrick last Sunday, but Stefan de Vrij’s late equalizer changed the script.

For Adani, Inter remain the stronger side despite their Derby woes. Nevertheless, he notes how Milan always find a way to irk their foes.

“There have been three derbies so far. In my opinion, Milan’s best performance was the one with Fonseca on the bench, when he made a revolutionary strategy that surprised Inter,” said the former Nerazzurri defender during his appearance on Viva el Futbol via FcInterNews.

“Inter played better in the Super Cup and Sunday’s Derby. But then, we must underline that all three matches were decided in the end because there is also the emotional aspect in addition to the technical-tactical one.

“Milan know how to tame Inter. They bother them. So while Inzaghi’s team imposes its will, the Rossoneri cause havoc on the counters with Leao and Theo.

“Inter, when in their top condition, remain superior, but Milan is annoying in certain moments of the match.”
