Liverpool have recruited another member of staff to add to Arne Slot's team, with Aaron Briggs arriving as the club's new elite development coach.

According to The Athletic, Briggs will replace Vitor Matos, who vacated his position at the end of last season following Jurgen Klopp's exit.

The 37-year-old worked for Manchester City for nine years and was promoted to senior first team performance analyst at the Etihad before leaving the club.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who use to work for Man City as one of Pep Guardiola's assistant coaches, wanted to take Briggs with him when he was appointed in north London, but a switch never materialised.

Briggs joined Monaco in 2020 and performed various roles there, including assistant coach and head of football methodology, before leaving in 2022.

His most recent position was assistant manager to Niko Kovac at Wolfsburg, but he left alongside the former Bayern Munich manager in March 2024.

Briggs will be the 'key link between the academy and the first-team set-up' according to The Athletic and was wanted by a number of Premier League sides this summer.

Liverpool have already appointed three members of staff to work alongside new head coach Slot, with Sipke Hulshoff (assistant manager), Ruben Peeters (lead physical performance coach) and Fabian Otte (goalkeeping coach) having already joined the Reds.

Both Hulshoff and Peeters have worked with Slot previously at Feyenoord.

LIVERPOOL COULD ADD FORMER EVERTON DEFENDER TO STAFF

Slot had revealed that there would be more additions to his backroom staff this summer and it appears that his compatriot Johnny Heitinga may be among the new recruits.

The 40-year-old, who spent five years at Merseyside rivals Everton and was famously sent off in the 2010 World Cup final, could become a new first-team coach.

Heitinga is 'one of the names under consideration' according to The Athletic having left David Moyes' coaching staff following the Scotsman's West Ham dismissal.

It remains to be seen how many more backroom staff additions there will be this summer, but Slot's team is starting to come together ahead of his debut season.
