Leeds' captain played in 63 games last season for Daniel Farke's side and his country, Wales, proving to be a consistent figure for both sides.

Already, he's rattled along to a further eight appearances (prior to today's clash with Coventry) this season, but his immediate involvement in Leeds' clashes with Norwich City (Tuesday) and Sunderland (Friday) is in serious doubt, as will be his involvement for Wales in the upcoming October international break.

Ampadu picked up an injury midway through the first-half of Leeds' clash with Coventry at Elland Road - a game in which they won 3–0 thanks to goals from Willy Gnonto, Jayden Bogle and Joel Piroe.

The Leeds skipper clashed with Ben Sheaf in a fair challenge, where it appeared at the time that he hurt his knee. Ampadu was able to continue but was forced to go down again a couple of minutes later and was replaced by Ao Tanaka.

Daniel Farke on Ethan Ampadu injury

Post-match, Daniel Farke was able to provide an update on his captain.

Ampadu was upbeat about the injury, confirmed to be his knee, but Farke was less optimistic.

"It's a knee injury and was definitely too painful for him to go on. Normally he tries everything to stay on the pitch," Farke told his press conference.

"He was quite positive after the game. He said it was painful, but he doesn't think it's too bad. I'm still a bit careful to be too optimistic right now.

"We have to wait for further assessment. I hope it's not too bad because we already have a few important players out and we need him.

"He's one of my most important players, if not my most important as our captain. He always plays in the centre of the park, important for the whole vibe, the whole spirit, the whole mood and also to keep a good balance between defending and attacking.

"I hope it's not too bad, but we have to wait for the assessment in the next few days."

Leeds United 3-0 Coventry City

Leeds were well on top at the time of Ampadu's injury, having taken the lead against Coventry through Gnonto's emphatic strike. Second-half goals from Bogle and Piroe secured Leeds the win, despite Ampadu's absence.

Tanaka impressed in the absence of Ampadu in central midfield, playing a role in the build-up to Leeds' third goal with an impressive pass.
