Leeds United have already approached certain players through their agents and have been rejected outright, due to the club’s status as a newly promoted Premier League team, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The Whites are back in the Premier League following a two-year absence after they managed to win the Championship title.
They have a huge challenge awaiting them now, though, as was seen by Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City being relegated this season.
Lessons have to be learnt from the three teams that were relegated and efforts are on behind the scenes to sign suitable players who will fit their needs.
Leeds are trying to land Udinese’s Jaka Bijol and could make a breakthrough soon.
However, a number of other players have been approached via their agents but nothing positive have come out of those approaches.
Some players do not want to take the risk of playing for a side that have just been promoted to the Premier League, given there is a possibility Leeds could go back down.
The Whites, taking those rejections on their stride, have duly moved on to other targets.
They are working on multiple deals at the same time so that the best possible team can be put at the disposal of Daniel Farke.
Strasbourg star Habib Diarra is being looked at by the Whites, though there is competition for him from Everton.
In the meantime, out-of-contract left-back Junior Firpo is set to join Real Betis on a free transfer after helping the Whites to the Premier League.
Striker Mateo Joseph could potentially be sold to the same club, though there remains a gap in valuation of the player.
Leeds previously gave a host of players a relegation release clause to let them depart on loan when they joined and when the Whites did go down, there was an exodus of players on temporary deals.
It remains to be seen if Leeds might think about offering a similar clause to convince reluctant players to sign on the dotted line.
