Leeds United have yet to sign a player for the January transfer window.

The Whites feel they have a strong squad and are expected to have a quiet month. At the same time, they could still look to add one or two players if they feel they can improve the squad tremendously.

This week, Leeds have been linked with a move for Newcastle United left-back Matt Targett. The Athletic claimed that the Magpies could consider selling the 29-year-old defender if the Whites make a formal move.

According to a fresh report from the Northern Echo, the Magpies are “ready to move” into the final stages of talks with Leeds over the sale of the defender.

The report claimed that Leeds are hoping to secure a deal for the left-back before the weekend, after Newcastle showed willingness to allow Targett to leave this month.

The left-back has struggled with fitness but has been unable to force his way into Eddie Howe’s plans.

Lewis Hall is Newcastle’s first-choice left-back this season, with both Dan Burn and Kieran Trippier able to provide cover on the left of the back four if needed.

Ben Jacobs has now shared that Leeds have no intention to sign Targett and are not expected to make a bid for the Magpies defender either.

The transfer expert wrote: “Understand Leeds United are not expected to make a bid for Newcastle left-back Matt Targett this winter.”

Meanwhile, the Whites have made an approach to sign Cameron Archer on loan from Southampton and they hope a deal can be done before Monday’s transfer deadline.
