Laughable claims of transfer talks for Fabian Schar to leave Newcastle United

Claims now that Fabian Schar could be leaving Newcastle United.

I wouldn’t get too worried just yet though, as this sounds like a laughable media ‘exclusive’ from Turkey.

The Turkish media outlet Karadeniz Gazete are the ones running this Fabian Schar transfer tale.

They claim contact has been made and ‘negotiations continue’ between Newcastle United and Trabzonspor.

On a scale of 1-100 on whether I believe this has any substance, then it would be a zero for me.

The angle for this daft transfer claim is that Trabzonspor think they can snap him up for a bargain price because Fabian Schar only has a year left on his current Newcastle United contract.

It is hilarious really, a journalist in another country looking for an angle to try and make a story, but it just doesn’t make sense, even if you somehow believed there had been an actual approach from Trabzonspor.

There is less than zero chance of Newcastle United selling Fabian Schar for some giveaway transfer fee.

He was one of Newcastle’s very best players, yet again, last season.

Schar made 47 NUFC appearances, including 35 starts in the Premier League and one PL sub appearance, as well as starting all six Champions League matches.

The journalist daydreaming stories up in Turkey, clearly not aware as well that central defence is the weakest area of the team in terms of strength in depth for when the season kicks off. Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman working their way back after massive operations and it will be at least months into the 2024/25 season before they could return to action.

Fabian Schar is actually the only right-footed central defender who is set to be available for the start of the season.

The idea that he would now be sold for a pittance by Eddie Howe

No disrespect to the Turkish league BUT the idea of Fabian Schar swapping the upper reaches of the Premier League as a still first choice player, for the lowly Turkish league??? I doubt it.

It isn’t even as if the Turkish media can use a chance to play in the Champions League angle, as Trabzonspor finished third last season, 32 points off second and 35 points off the very top. Only the top two get Champions League football and instead Trabzonspor can only offer the Europa League second qualifying round as the European action starting point next season.

I’m guessing at some point either pre-season, or once we are into the new Premier League season, we will see Fabian Schar agree a deal to add another year on his contract, taking him up to end of June 2026.
