Xavi Simons has rejoined the RB Leipzig squad and is expected to play in their pre-season friendly against Lens on Saturday according to reports.
Chelsea have been locked in negotiations with Leipzig for a number of weeks, but are yet to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga club.
The Blues have identified Simons as a player they want to add to their squad, and the 22-year-old reportedly wants to join Chelsea.
Chelsea are keen to have eight or nine attacking options to rotate between next season as they prepare for their return to Champions League football.
If a deal for Simons goes through he would become the fourth attacking signing this summer after Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro.

Chelsea are yet to make an official bid for Simons, with Leipzig believed to want a £60m package for the Dutch international.
The Blues are believed to value Simons at £50m, with talks said to still be at an advanced stage between the clubs.
Simons had been training away from the squad, and hasn’t played a part in Leipzig’s recent pre-season games, however Bild have reported via X account BILD_rbleipzig that Simons is on the flight to France after recovering from a cold.
The Dutchman can play both on the left and as a number ten, making him a great fit for Enzo Maresca’s system, and he would be another exciting attacking addition.
As well as working on a deal for Simons, Chelsea are pushing ahead on a deal for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.
Garnacho has reportedly agreed personal terms with Chelsea, and the Blues now need to reach an agreement with United over a fee.

The 21-year-old has made it clear he only wants to join Chelsea this summer, with United wanting £50m, whilst the Blues are reportedly only prepared to pay £30m.
This deal has a feeling of when rather than if, and it’ll be interesting to see what the final fee for the Argentine ends up being.
