Joan Laporta could not hide his emotion after witnessing Barcelona’s La Liga triumph against Espanyol, the same venue where the club sealed another league title just two years ago.

This victory, however, felt even more significant to the Barça president, who praised the entire team, management, and the fans for what he described as a monumental achievement against all odds.

“This La Liga has been even more difficult,” Laporta remarked, clearly moved by the occasion. “I’m very happy to see the Barcelona fans regain their joy, a La Liga that we won against everyone and everything.”

Barcelona, under the leadership of Hansi Flick, completed a remarkable domestic treble, having also secured the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup. Laporta was full of praise for Flick and his technical staff, along with sporting director Deco, stating,

“These players, Hansi with his staff, and Deco with his team, it’s been a historic season.”

Thanking the fans

The president also made it a point to thank the Barça faithful, who stood by the club despite repeated attempts to destabilise the institution in recent seasons.

“It’s a League of Barça fans. In the face of all the attempts at destabilisation, they have given us their trust. It’s a victory for the Barça members.”

Laporta’s optimism for the club’s future was evident. With a young squad already delivering silverware, he believes more glory lies ahead: “With this team, which has a present and a future, I think we can still aspire to more.”

Reflecting on the season as a whole, Laporta gave the team the highest marks possible:

“This season, I give it an excellent. We’ve been the best, we’ve won titles against our eternal rival. It’s the self-importance of the cules, who not only want to win but to do so by playing well.”

Indeed, this squad has been described as bold and passionate, and Laporta believes the connection between players and fans has been reignited.

“Barcelona fans have fallen in love with their team again. They play without hesitation, they feel the colours and how much they love each other. I’d say it’s a historic season.”

Praise for Lamine Yamal

Special recognition was given to Lamine Yamal, the teenage sensation who scored the decisive goal in the 2-0 win over Espanyol. Laporta didn’t hold back when describing the youngster’s impact:

“Lamine Yamal is a footballing genius. He’s in a limbo that’s destined for a select few. Today he opened the scoring again with a stunning goal in the top corner. He not only has individual quality, but he also drives the team.”

Lastly, Laporta confirmed plans to return to the Spotify Camp Nou, with an optimistic timeline.

“We’ll be back at the Spotify Camp Nou in August, if there are no unforeseen events. There will be more work shifts now,” he revealed.
