Celtic expected to sell Gustaf Lagerbielke in the near future as the Scottish Champions look to recoup their outlay for the Swedish defender.

The 24-year-old was signed from Elfsborg last summer but has failed to make an impact at Celtic.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are keen to continue their reshape their squad in the image of Brendan. The manager was in charge when Lagerbielke arrived but it is clear that he does not see the defender having a future at the club.

Lagerbielke signed for Celtic after being recommended to the club by Carl Starfelt’s agent, who switched to La Liga to join Celta Vigo. The £3m switch was expected to be a replacement for his compatriot, with Maik Nawrocki also arriving in the summer. However, the Swedish central defender made just ten appearances as well as scoring one goal – the win against Feyenoord in the UCL.

There have been rumours of Starfelt returning from Spain, which would push Lagerbielke further out of the first team picture. Stephen Welsh and Nawrocki are ahead of Lagerbielke with CCV and Liam Scales were the preferred pairing for Rodgers as Celtic won League and Scottish Cup Double. Hopefully, Celtic can recoup some of the cash that they paid to Elfsborg last summer.

Rodgers clearly spent last year working through the squad and determining whether players had a future at the club or not. The manager will have decided that Sead Hakšabanović was surplus to requirements, which prompted his exit while players like Oh are also tipped to depart as the Irishman looks to put his stamp on the team ahead of his second season in charge.
