LAFC stun Club América to book Club World Cup ticket | OneFootball

The full field in the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is officially set after LAFC secured a dramatic 2-1 comeback win against Liga MX giants Club América.

Across a hotly contested affair between two of the top sides in MLS and Liga MX, the quality on offer ultimately canceled each other out across a scoreless first half of action at BMO Field.

A double change at the half by Club América boss André Jardine saw Brian Rodríguez and Jonathan dos Santos replace Alan Cervantes and Víctor Dávila after LAFC slightly edged out the Mexican side across the opening 45 minutes.

Those changes proved decisive when Águilas broke the deadlock in the 64th minute thanks to a converted spot-kick from Rodríguez against his old club after VAR ruled that Black and Gold defender Mark Delgado brought down Erick Sanchez just inside the box.

Steve Cherundolo would make changes of his own before the final 15 minutes of play, introducing David Martínez, Olivier Giroud, and Cengiz Ünder into proceedings.

LAFC would surge late across the dying minutes in front of home support in Southern California, and it would pay off in spades when Brazilian younger Igor Jesus found the match equalizer just one minute before the end of normal time.

Star forward Denis Bouanga would hit his 80th goal in all competitions for the MLS side with a deflected effort that beat Luis Malagon from outside the box to guarantee LAFC's passage into the summer showcase, and they will now feature in Group D alongside Chelsea, ES Tunis, and Flamengo.
