Kylian Mbappe was once again the main difference maker for Real Madrid as they secured a crucial 3-2 win over Celta Vigo.
The reigning Spanish champions were cruising in the early parts of the game, with Mbappe notably scoring a brace. But a late surge from Celta Vigo saw them reduce the deficit to just one goal, though they weren’t able to complete the comeback.
Nevertheless, Mbappe’s brace against Celta Vigo extended his scoring tally for the season to 36 goals in 52 competitive matches. This remarkable haul places Mbappe on the cusp of Real Madrid’s record books.
Mbappe’s stunning debut season in white is now just one goal shy of tying Ivan Zamorano’s record for the most goals scored in a debut campaign for Real Madrid.
The Chilean striker set the benchmark in the 1992/93 season, netting 37 times in 45 appearances.

One more goal would see Mbappe equal Zamorano’s record, cementing his name among the greatest debut seasons.
Mbappe’s tally now places him second on this illustrious list, surpassing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 33 goals in just 35 matches during his incredible debut in 2009/10, and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who also bagged 33 goals in 47 games.
Even Brazilian legend Ronaldo, whose arrival was met with global fanfare in 2002, managed 30 goals in his debut campaign.
However, despite the sheer numbers, Real Madrid fans will be hoping for more output from Mbappe next season, especially in big matches.
The Frenchman, after all, has not always been at his best when taking on a top team. This was evident in games against Arsenal, Barcelona and Liverpool.
This is contrast to someone like Cristiano Ronaldo, who may have scored fewer goals in his debut season, but was much more impactful in crunch games.
