Kwame Poku's Peterborough United exit has been imminent for some time but now looks to be within touching distance.

QPR, Swansea City and another unnamed club have reportedly agreed a deal with Peterborough for his services, with the 23-year-old’s future destination now up for him to decide.

Earlier on in the window, Birmingham City looked to be leading the chase to sign the young prospect, with Football League World exclusively revealing that Blues were ready to offer him a wage of £30,000 per week.

Now Chris Davies’ side look to be out of the running for Poku’s signature and will have to pursue other targets.

Football League World’s Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore, is glad that Blues have decided to move away from a deal for the forward.

Birmingham City commended for Kwame Poku stance

“At the start of the transfer window before this whole saga began, I really wanted Poku,” started Jason.

“He is fast, direct and just looked a real talent. But at this point he's just not worth the hassle. His agent has screwed him over. Don’t get me wrong, I know we're all on the same playing field in the Championship, but for me there are levels between QPR and Birmingham City.

“Even if you ignore the Birmingham City factor, he's gone from signing for Rangers, arguably the biggest club in Scotland, playing European football, to QPR.

“Nothing against QPR and their fans, but where are they going? I just think his agent has royally done him over and Blues have done well to steer clear of him.

“There are plenty of other players out there so not getting Poku isn’t the end of the world. If anything, I'm happy for Peterborough that they're going to get a bit of money for him. I’m curious to see what the compensation fee is that they've agreed with QPR.

“I'm glad we've not got him. He’s made us wait this long and if you don't want to come straight away then you’re clearly not for us. I’m happy we stuck to our guns and walked away.”

Birmingham will cope without Kwame Poku addition

Losing out on Poku will likely hurt Birmingham, with their large contract offering a clear statement over how much they wanted his signature.

However, it isn’t likely to quell the positive attitude currently surrounding St. Andrew’s.

Davies’ side have been linked with moves to Demarai Gray, Lewis O’Brien and Kyogo Furuhashi recently and if they were able to capture that trio, it would go a long way to easing the pain of missing out on Poku.

Championship experience is vital for succeeding in the second-tier and, although the Peterborough talent is highly rated, he is still an unknown quantity in that regard.

Therefore, although Poku would’ve been a welcome addition, not acquiring the young talent shouldn’t impact the club’s fate too much next term.
