Several high-profile members of the first-team ranks at Real Madrid made clear that they were closely watching developments in the meeting between Girona and Barcelona on Saturday evening.

As much, of course, comes with the La Liga title having been on the line for Los Blancos.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real marked their return to action earlier today, ultimately emerging comfortable 3-0 victors over struggling Cádiz.

This meant that anything other than a Barcelona triumph over Girona mere hours later would see the capital giants’ latest Spanish top-flight crown confirmed.

And, when all was said and done at the Estadi Montilivi, precisely as much was forthcoming.

Despite carrying a 2-1 lead into the interval, Barca were ultimately put to the sword by four goals to two at the hands of their Catalan neighbours.

And watching on intently as Girona’s comeback made their latest title a reality were a number of headline members of Real Madrid’s squad.
