Kobbie Mainoo would reportedly consider leaving Manchester United in the final days of the transfer window.

It mightn’t come as the most shocking of surprises to fans right now, but it seems almost unfathomable when you think back to last year’s FA Cup final, in which he scored and played an influential role in the Reds’ securing their triumph over Manchester City.

Fast-forward to 2025/2026, however, and Mainoo has been an unused substitute for the first two matches of the season under Ruben Amorim, prompting widespread concerns over whether he simply doesn’t fit into the coach’s newly-implemented system.

After United’s 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage on Sunday, Amorim admitted to the press post-match that Mainoo was ‘fighting’ with his skipper Bruno Fernandes for a starting spot. Amorim said: “He’s fighting for the position now with Bruno. I let Mason Mount stay there because we want to score a goal. When I changed, I felt the team needed to return to one holding midfielder near Bruno. He just needs to fight for the position with Bruno.”

Today, talkSPORT has claimed the 20-year-old has opened the door to a potential Old Trafford departure, as he looks to ensure his career isn’t falling stagnant at his boyhood club.

Where could Mainoo end up if he leaves United?

Assuming he was indeed made available for sale, the midfielder wouldn’t be short of suitors.

Any fee United receive from Mainoo’s prospective sale would generate pure profit and a healthy PSR boost, given he’s a product of Carrington and has spent his entire career on their books.
