Kevin De Bruyne says he is playing “basically pain free” after a difficult season and is looking forward to the future after helping Man City come from behind to beat Crystal Palace.
City found themselves two goals down at home to Palace after Ebere Eze and then Chris Richards had put Oliver Glasner’s side ahead.
But De Bruyne rolled back the years to spark a superb City comeback by scoring a free-kick before half-time, and Omar Marmoush added an equaliser to level the score at the break.
City then steamrolled Palace in the second half, with goals from Mateo Kovacic, which was set up by De Bruyne, James McAtee and then Nico O’Reilly securing what eventually turned out to be a comfortable win for Pep Guardiola’s group.
De Bruyne will leave Manchester City after ten years at the end of this season but says he is feeling primed to help the club end a difficult campaign on a high by qualifying for Champions League football.
“It’s been a hard year,” he told TNT Sports. “Having a hernia wasn’t fun but now I would say I’m basically pain free for the last six weeks.
“Playing with pain was hard but now I feel free. I’m able to do a lot of training sessions and I feel I can do a good job.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen but I want to play on so we’ll see where I can end up.
“I’ve been here so long. My family has been here ten years, my kids were born in Manchester and have lived their whole life here so it’s going to be something different for them.
“I think they’re a bit scared and excited but it’s a bit unknown because we don’t know what’s going to happen at the moment.
“But I want to enjoy playing good football like I did today. I’ll be fine. If I can play football and my family is happy, I’m good.”
The Belgian also has the opportunity to end his City career with silverware by winning the FA Cup and says that combined with Champions League qualification would be the perfect ending.
“That would be brilliant,” he said.
“To be in the semis again is great. Now we play Nottingham who have done really well but we’re going to try and give it our best shot at winning and that would be really nice.”
