Kaoru Mitoma has told Brighton he wishes to extend his current contract at the club, despite being known to be one of Bayern Munich’s targets, according to Sky Sports.
The current Bundesliga holders are known to be big admirers of Mitoma and are in the market for a left-winger this summer, especially following Leroy Sané’s switch to Turkish side Galatasaray.
However, the Japanese international has informed Brighton of his wish to remain at the club and to extend his current contract, which is set to expire in 2027.
Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler (formerly of St. Pauli) likewise downplayed transfer rumours, telling Sky Sports: “We try to keep our best players. Mitoma played a great last season but it’s only because we as a club worked together. Then you can shine as individuals. It’s the most important that all the players try to understand that. Mitoma understood it last season.”
Hürzeler added: “I’m really looking forward to seeing him back [on Thursday for pre-season]. That’s the plan. We look forward to continue working with him, to try to improve him because I still think his limit is not reached yet… I’m sure he will be an important part of us.”
