Juventus have been propelled by their defense during their ongoing winning streak. They have conceded just two goals, which turned out to be inconsequential, in the last five rounds. The Bianconeri had started very well in that regard, but they had a multi-month dip that began with the 4-4 draw with Inter at San Siro.
The Old Lady has righted the ship in recent tilts. After Monday’s result, they are up to 14 clean sheets in 27 Serie A rounds, which is a record in the top five European leagues, Corriere dello Sport informs. They have counter-surpassed Napoli, which held the baton for a few weeks, for least goals allowed, 21.
Juventus initially struggled right after Gleison Bremer got hurt and eventually lost Pierre Kalulu too. They added two center-backs in January, Renato Veiga and Lloyd Kelly, who have held their own when called upon, especially the former.
The Milan loanee returned from a thigh strain in the previous round. The Chelsea one shouldn’t be out for much longer. In addition to the center-backs, Manuel Locatelli has played a key role in their accomplishment. He progressively lowered his position on the pitch and improved significantly in his defensive reads and interventions.
Thiago Motta’s offensive proclivity was initially overblown, as his Bologna side was rock-solid too. The data would look better had they not been pushed around by PSV. The positive development is that the turnaround happened organically and without excessive adjustments. They are actually doing so with a very aggressive backline. Using Timothy Weah and Andrea Cambiaso as fullbacks at the same time hasn’t caused big issues, and it helps their offense a lot.
