Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued a parting message on the subject of Manchester City’s 115 charges and what they mean for Pep Guardiola’s legacy.

It is now well over one year ago that the Premier League first charged Manchester City with more than 100 breaches of its financial rules following a four-year investigation, referring the club to an independent commission over alleged breaches between 2009 and 2018.

As part of the same statement issued in February 2023, Manchester City were also accused by the Premier League of not co-operating since their investigation first started in December 2018.

In a strong response by Manchester City, who are understood to maintain such a stance, the Premier League champions said that they were not only “surprised” by the charges, but are also supported by a “body of irrefutable evidence”.

With no resolution to the matter in sight in the very immediate future, certain figures within the game are speaking out on the matter and the need for the issue to be resolved soon for all involved.

The latest to speak out is Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has been in a direct confrontation with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City for a large part of his time in charge of the Anfield club.

Speaking ahead of his final Premier League match as Liverpool manager, Klopp has insisted that while he and everybody knows about Manchester City’s 115 charges for alleged breaches of financial rules, he has ‘no clue’ what they mean.

“Everybody knows about the 115 charges, but I have no clue what that means. I only know the number. No matter what has transpired at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world – and that is truly significant,” Klopp explained.

“If you put any other manager in that club, they don’t win the league four times in a row. That’s down to him and his team. Does that mean they can do whatever they want? No. But I don’t know what they did – if they did anything – and I’m not here to say they have.”

Klopp continued, “We will see. Of course, I would like to know (if Manchester City are guilty) one day. Everyone wants to know. But I will be somewhere else. The quality of Pep makes the difference so I don’t worry about these things.

“We will see. It’s not my problem and I am fine with what we have and what we’ve achieved.”

Manchester City have the opportunity this weekend to create yet more history under Pep Guardiola, as they could become the first side in Premier League history to win the English top-flight four seasons in a row.

Should Pep Guardiola and his players record victory over West Ham on Sunday afternoon, that feat will be achieved, as they defeat Arsenal to yet another top-flight title in a thrilling title race this campaign.
