Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that forward Julian Brandt has signed a new two-year contract with the club.
The 26-year-old’s previous deal was set to run out at the end of next season, but the new contract keeps him at Signal Iduna Park until 2026.
This comes after the German was attracting interest from Premier League duo Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, who were planning to make their move this summer.
Brandt has been a key player for Dortmund this season, bagging nine goals and five assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.
The former Wolfsburg prodigy has played a pivotal part in the club’s campaign as they slug it out with perennial champions Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga crown.
Edin Terzic’s side are two points behind Die Roten since losing the Der Klassiker, but a slender 2-1 victory over top-four hopefuls Union Berlin ensured they kept tabs with Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Brandt who has been one of the central figures in their title chase has now put pen to paper on a new deal while looking forward to celebrating success with the Der BVB.
“Every single day after four years, I still have great fun being part of this team,” Brandt said after committing his future to the club.
“Standing on the pitch with these guys and playing football for this highly emotional club with its extraordinary fans.
“I am looking forward to the next few years in black and yellow, and I am sure that together we will have the opportunity to celebrate something great.”
Brandt joined Dortmund after his formative five-year spell with Bayer Leverkusen, where he made 215 appearances scoring 42 goals and assisting 51.
Since joining the black and yellow, the Germany international has racked up 162 appearances, notching 29 goals and 30 assists.
Having represented the German national team across every youth level, Brandt has racked up 39 appearances for the senior side since making his debut in May 2016.
