Bild has revealed the role that Jürgen Klopp has played in the sacking of RB Leipzig head coach Marco Rose over the weekend.

Klopp began his role as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer at the beginning of the year and is involved with each of Red Bull’s football clubs, but his recent focus has been on a struggling Leipzig side.

On Sunday, it was announced that Leipzig had sacked head coach Marco Rose following a 1-0 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach, which leaves them sixth in the Bundesliga. Klopp is said to have protected his former player for as long as possible in the role, even going as far as visiting Leipzig last week, and even tried to motivate the team for the final stretch of the season.

However, the situation has become too difficult, and Klopp, along with Red Bull Managing Director Oliver Mintzlaff, made the decision to part ways with the Leipzig native.

Rose has been replaced by Zsolt Löw, who held the role of Global Head of Soccer Development at Red Bull. Continuing Klopp’s influence, his former assistant Peter Krawietz will assist Löw for the rest of the season.
