Jürgen Klopp has given his backing to Arne Slot’s likely appointment as Liverpool manager.

Talks are continuing to take place between Anfield chiefs and Feyenoord over Slot potentially Klopp when he departs the hot seat this summer.

And the outgoing German admitted on Friday that while he is not involved in the selection process, the 45-year-old represents a credible option.

“I didn’t read anything but Arne has said something. I am not involved, club-wise,” said Klopp.

“I would like a lot that if he is the one he wants to take the job and is excited.

“I like his team’s style, all I hear about him as a guy. Some people I know tell me. Good coach. All sounds really good to me.

“Best job and club in the world. And healthy, space for improvement. Fantastic people.”

Klopp has also taken fully responsibility for Liverpool’s Merseyside derby defeat to Everton during midweek.

A two-goal reversal in Wednesday’s Goodison Park encounter saw his side lose further ground in the Premier League title race.

Speaking ahead of his side’s trip to West Ham, Klopp concedes that he cannot recall being more disappointed by a team performance.

“I can’t remember I have ever been as disappointed and frustrated after a game,” said Klopp.

“We were not there. You see the other two teams playing, very positive football, high results. We are not playing positive football.

“I blame myself.”

Liverpool sit three point behind Arsenal and two adrift of Manchester City, who still have a game in hand, heading into the season run-in.
