As per De Telegraaf, Quincy Promes (33) will not be granted free passage to the Netherlands. This was decided by the Amsterdam Court of Appeal on Tuesday.
Promes’ lawyer, Mr Cem Polat, filed a request with the Amsterdam Court of Appeal on behalf of the footballer, who is awaiting extradition in Dubai. Promes wants to return to the Netherlands to attend the appeal hearing here in freedom, he has stated.
“He wants to comply with all the conditions imposed on him,” said the lawyer. He stated, among other things, that Promes wanted to report to the police at any time.
One of the reasons the lawyer gave as for this request is that there are only a few years left for the professional footballer to play.
“An average career for a footballer ends around the age of 35. Suppose everything goes well, he might be able to get an extra year or two. So now he only has two or three years left to earn his bread and butter for the rest of his life.”
The court then wanted to know if there were any possibilities for Promes. “He is a free agent. There are various proposals from various clubs. Also abroad. The whole idea is that he is very keen to play football. That is why there is no need to fear that he will go to Russia. Because if there is this reputation, no one wants him there either. He wants to get rid of the situation he is in now.”
Polat, speaking on behalf of his client, who is still in Dubai awaiting extradition, said Promes wants to comply with all conditions that would be imposed. The appeal case has not yet been scheduled.
The court stated that it had not become clear where Promes would play. “It had not become clear what specific football relationship it was. That is, therefore, not verifiable. And therefore the risk of flight cannot be ruled out,” the court summarised the decision.
