Liverpool’s summer recruitment drive is already shaping up to be one of serious intent. With Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz already signed and Milos Kerkez expected to follow shortly, attention may now turn towards a marquee signing up front. According to Dean Jones of Flashscore, Liverpool could still have a chance at signing Alexander Isak.
Despite being a key figure in Newcastle’s recent resurgence, Isak’s contract issues have left the door ajar. Jones reports that “Liverpool are aware that Newcastle do not want to hear from them this summer but the main reason for optimism is his contract situation that is dragging on.”
Isak is said to be seeking close to £200,000 a week to extend his stay, a significant leap from his current terms. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s top earners, such as Bruno Guimarães, reportedly earn north of £150,000, highlighting the wage gap the Swedish international is contending with. Negotiations have dragged on for over a year, hampered by disagreements surrounding a potential release clause. The silence from Newcastle has only fuelled speculation.

Arne Slot, fresh from a title-winning debut campaign at Anfield, is plotting further refinement of Liverpool’s attacking options. With doubts looming over Darwin Nunez’s future, the club’s interest in an elite No.9 is entirely logical. Internal discussions have reportedly taken place, and while no formal bid has been submitted, Liverpool are said to be “alert”.
Jones states: “Although Isak’s current contract runs until 2028, the impasse has encouraged our recruitment team to begin internal discussions about a possible approach.”
A £150 million fee has reportedly been set by Newcastle. While that valuation may seem steep, it’s a figure that reflects both Isak’s current quality and potential longevity. More importantly, it underscores Newcastle’s reluctance to entertain offers unless forced to do so.
Isak’s Premier League performances speak for themselves. Technically gifted, mobile, and composed in front of goal, he’s precisely the kind of centre-forward who would complement the likes of Wirtz and Mohamed Salah. His ability to stretch defences, drop into pockets, and lead the line single-handedly makes him an ideal fit for Slot’s fluid, high-intensity style.
While it’s clear Newcastle want to keep hold of their star striker, the tension behind the scenes is undeniable. Should those issues persist, Liverpool could be well-positioned to pounce.
Liverpool’s recruitment this summer has been nothing short of assertive. The signings of Frimpong and Wirtz already suggest a shift towards younger, technically advanced players capable of immediate impact. With Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez expected to arrive next and talks ongoing for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, the squad is being rebuilt with the long term in mind.

Isak, at 25, fits perfectly into that strategy. A striker entering his prime, with proven Premier League quality and international pedigree, would be the type of statement signing to send a message to Manchester City and Arsenal: Liverpool are here to stay at the summit.
Liverpool fans are buzzing at the prospect of adding Alexander Isak to this title-winning squad. After watching Arne Slot work wonders in his debut season, supporters are ready for the next evolution of this exciting team. The possibility of landing Isak feels like a dream that might actually become reality.
What’s most exciting is the idea of watching Isak link up with Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah. The Swedish striker’s movement, creativity and finishing would complement our current attacking weapons perfectly. With Nunez failing to fully convince and questions surrounding his finishing, fans are open to moving in a new direction — and Isak could be that answer.
Frimpong down the right, Wirtz centrally and Isak leading the line? That’s not just strong, it’s frightening for any defence. Add in the expected arrival of Kerkez and the potential for Guehi to strengthen the back line, and this is the type of squad fans have been dreaming of for years.
The £150 million price tag might be steep, but FSG have already shown more ambition than previous windows. If there’s a way to make this work within the club’s financial framework, supporters are all in. Make it happen, Liverpool.
