Even though his second stint at Real Madrid was not a long one, Joselu endeared himself to the Madridistas through his valuable contributions in their La Liga, Spanish Super Cup, and the UEFA Champions League triumphs last season.

Having now left for the Middle East, Joselu will be back at the Santiago Bernabeu this weekend as he will make his commentary debut during Real Madrid’s La Liga clash against Sevilla.

During an interview with DAZN (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Joselu discussed various matters regarding Real Madrid as well as his impending debut as commentator.

Talking about Kylian Mbappe, and the rather slow start that he has had at the Bernabeu, Joselu emphasised that the French forward must take things slowly.

“He has to go little by little, clear his mind, and stay calm. He has incredible conditions to be one of the best players in the world at Real Madrid. He has all the qualities to be a very important player for the club and to become part of its history.”

Joselu also discussed Vinicius Jr.’s recent FIFA The Best Men’s Player Award victory and his Ballon d’Or miss, saying:

“I am happy for the ‘The Best’ award he received. I believe he had an incredible season last year. For me, he was the most decisive player of the season.”

However, Joselu added that for him, Vinicius’ teammate Dani Carvajal deserved to win the Ballon d’Or over the Brazilian as well as the eventual winner Rodri.

“It is clear that, well, you already know who should have won the Ballon d’Or for me… For me, Carva (Dani Carvajal). I have a lot of appreciation for Rodri, I have great affection for Vini as well,” he said.

“But Dani was my favourite, for everything he achieved individually, for what he gave to his club and the national team. This year, the Ballon d’Or should have been divided.”

Regarding his debut as a commentator, Joselu expressed: “One always faces their debut with respect, but doing it as a commentator at the Santiago Bernabeu, in my home, at the farewell of Jesus Navas, and sitting next to Guti and Baptista is a great experience that I will enjoy very much.”
