Rangers secured a 3-1 victory over Fenerbahce in Turkey last night in the first-leg of the Europa League round of 16 fixture, and the opposition manager Jose Mourinho was blown away with Light Blues striker Cyriel Dessers.
The Ibrox favourite bagged the opener before assisting the second, but he could have ended the game with a hat-trick as he had two goals chalked off after VAR intervened.
Mourinho was impressed with the Rangers star, insisting he played like the best player on the planet against his side.
“Dessers looked like the best player in the world today,” the Portuguese said after the game.
“But he’s not normally like that.”
The Gers were impressive from start to finish at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, and they will fancy their chances of getting the needed result next Thursday when Fenerbahce visit Ibrox.
Dessers scored his fourth European goal of the season and delivered his fourth assist, taking his tally to 22 goals across all competitions this term to equal the 22 he bagged last term, and Mourinho will be desperate to stop him next week.
Rangers will have to be wary of the hurt Portuguese and his team in the second-leg despite their two-goal cushion, and interim head coach Barry Ferguson will be keen for his side to produce another impressive display.
Not many were expecting the Bears to leave Turkey with a good result last night, but they proved their detractors wrong in style and will be hoping to finish the job next week and advance to the quarter-finals.
