Rotherham United have had a disappointing season back in League One after suffering relegation last year.

The Millers were hoping to be in the fight for promotion straight back to the Championship, but they have been unable to perform to that standard under Steve Evans.

As we approach the final weeks of the season, the club will be reflecting on where everything went wrong this season in order to identify what’s needed this summer.

As well as new signings, Rotherham will also be hoping that key figures can step up over the break and return with improved form in the following campaign.

When asked which player needs to improve most right now, FLW’s Rotherham fan pundit Tom Eyre singled out Jonson Clarke-Harris.

He criticised the forward for under-performing this year, citing his poor record in front of goal, suggesting he has to improve on this and get back to the strong form he showed at Peterborough United.

“The best answer I can give here is Jonson Clarke-Harris,” Eyre told Football League World.

“He is massively under-performing based on what the manager saw for him in regards to his goal-scoring ability.

“He’s under-performing himself, the goals he set himself, and he’s under-performing in the team as a whole.

“He's really not impacting games, not scoring, not assisting, not really doing much in games, and it’s not like him for a player of his quality that we’ve seen him do so much in his career, scoring goals.

“He’s looking like a very different player from what he absolutely should be and what he used to be.”

Rotherham are currently 14th in the League One table after their 3-2 loss to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Clarke-Harris’ disappointing goal return key to Rotherham’s poor form

Clarke-Harris joined in the summer with the expectation he could at least score double figures and help push Rotherham to a top six fight.

But he has contributed just seven goals and one assist from 24 appearances, with the team floundering in the mid-table.

This is a forward that has reached as many as 31 and 26 league goals across a League One campaign before, highlighting how big of a drop-off he’s experienced.

While reaching that tally again might be a reach, he should be targeting far more than just seven goals going into next season.
