Jonathan Burkardt ill ahead of Borussia Dortmund clash | OneFootball

Upon his return to Mainz after representing Germany in the UEFA Nations League, Jonathan Burkardt was absent from training ahead of their Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday. According to Kicker, the 24-year-old is unable to return to training until Friday at the earliest due to a mild flu infection.

Burkardt is currently enjoying his best season to date with 15 goals and three assists in 22 Bundesliga games, which has helped Bo Henriksen’s Mainz into third place with Champions League football next season a real possibility.

Called up to Julian Nagelsmann’s latest Germany squad, Burkardt also played 45 minutes against Italy in the UEFA Nations League as the national team secured their place in the semi-final, where they will play Portugal at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena in June.

Nadiem Amiri trains after returning from the German national team

Mainz’ Nadiem Amiri is enjoying an excellent campaign, which has resulted in a return to the national team after his last appearance in November 2020. The 28-year-old featured in both games against Italy and although given a day off, Kicker report that the midfielder took part in training a day earlier than planned ahead of Sunday’s game against Dortmund.
