Manchester City have received a further update on the fitness of John Stones ahead of the upcoming international break.
The England international was ruled out for “a little bit of a long time”, according to his manager Pep Guardiola, and has subsequently missed contests against Bournemouth in the Premier League and Sporting CP in the Champions League this week.
Going on to reveal Stones was suffering from an injury issue in his feet, Pep Guardiola was unable to confirm whether the central defender would make an appearance prior to the international break, as he continued, “I don’t know if he’ll be back for the next two games”.
The injury to John Stones coincides with problems elsewhere within the Manchester City squad, as the player has been sidelined alongside fellow central defender Ruben Dias for the same period of time.
And as Manchester City put together their preparations for the final contest before the November international break, the club have received a further update concerning John Stones after the release of England’s international squad for their coming two matches.
The 30-year-old has been excluded by Lee Carsley for his upcoming international matches with the England senior squad, further highlighting the need for extra recovery time in order to overcome his foot problem.
However, Jack Grealish – who has also been ruled out of Manchester City action for the last few games and until after the international break – has been selected for duty with England this month causing some confusion over his status.
As for those selected by Lee Carsley, and those who remain full-fit under Pep Guardiola, a trio of Rico Lewis, Kyle Walker, and Phil Foden join the aforementioned Grealish in the final England squad of the calendar year.
Pep Guardiola is likely to provide an update on the general fitness of his squad when he faces the media on Friday afternoon, and may be quizzed further on the situation regarding Jack Grealish in light of his England selection.
