A bright start to the season has been somewhat overshadowed for Blackburn Rovers after they fell to two consecutive defeats before the international break, falling to eighth in the Championship.

Given their narrow relegation escape last season coupled with Sammie Szmodics' departure, most Blackburn supporters would have been absolutely delighted with their current position in the league, and it's important that John Eustace's side don't let two consecutive defeats ruin what's been a bright start to the campaign.

The international break has probably come at the right time for Blackburn, and when they return to action on Saturday against Swansea City, they'll be targeting all three points in a bid to put a stop to the two-game losing streak.

It could also provide Eustace with the perfect chance to freshen up his side, and after conceding five goals in their last two games, it could be time to give summer signing Balazs Toth his first minutes between the sticks.

Blackburn brought in Hungarian goalkeeper Toth in the summer transfer window, but after arriving on deadline day, he was playing catch-up, and subsequently, hasn't been included in the starting XI yet.

Aynsley Pears made some poor mistakes last season, so it looked as if Toth was coming in to be the club's first choice, but given the way Blackburn started the season, Pears kept his spot in the starting XI and has impressed for the most part.

However, two consecutive losses where Pears has conceded five goals in total may give Eustace food for thought, and the first game back after an international break almost acts as a fresh start, meaning it could be the perfect time to give Toth his chance between the sticks.

It may be a little harsh on Pears given the way he started the season, but Toth has a quality CV and while he's yet to win his first cap for Hungary, he's been included in international squads since 2021, showing he's highly-rated in his homeland.

The 27-year-old will be desperate for his first taste of Championship football, and it feels like Blackburn's last two results will give Eustace the perfect chance to freshen things up between the sticks.

Pears will likely have known that any substandard performances will see him replaced by Toth, and while he's made a decent start to the season, he probably should have done better with Plymouth's winner in their last game, and his run of starts could come to an end this weekend.

Eustace will enjoy having two goalkeepers pushing each other for the starting shirt and raising standards at the club, and if Toth is handed a start this weekend, then Pears will be working hard in training to try and win it back.

Balazs Toth will be looking to lay down a marker if selected

Toth is vastly experienced in Hungarian football, but he's new to the Championship, and if selected it's important for him to make a good first impression to become Blackburn's number one in the long-term.

Even though he's not played a game for Blackburn, match fitness and sharpness shouldn't be an issue as he's played nine games this season for Fehervar, including four European Conference League Qualifying games, and when he joined the club he'd have joined to be first choice, not sit on the bench.

Toth could benefit from Blackburn's two consecutive losses, and there'll likely be plenty of supporters at Ewood Park who are keen to see him make his debut to see what he's all about.

Saturday's fixture against Swansea feels like a big game after two consecutive losses, and it's important to stop the rot before things get worse. If selected, Toth knows he must perform well to continue being picked in the future, and Saturday could be the chance to lay down a marker and kickstart his Blackburn career.
