The 38-year-old took over at Ashton Gate in November last year, and while he oversaw the January transfer window, this will be his first summer transfer window at the club, where he can make a big impact on how he wants his team to look.

The Robins finished a respectable 11th in the Championship in Manning’s half of the season in charge of the club, but they were 11 points adrift of the play-offs, a gap that he will want to close in the 2024/25 season.

For that gap to be closed, Bristol City will need to be active over the next three months, and here at Football League World, we have picked three shrewd transfers the club should secure before August 30th…

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi burst onto the scene in the 2022/23 season, as the winger produced standout performances while on loan at Charlton Athletic.

After that spell with the Addicks, it was anticipated that Rak-Sakyi could be sent out on loan again, but this time to a Championship team.

However, Crystal Palace decided to keep the player beyond the transfer window, but the 2023/24 season was a frustrating one for the winger, as injuries and competition meant he didn’t feature much.

This summer provides another opportunity for the player, and it appears as though clubs are looking into possibly signing him.

Luton Town and Blackburn Rovers are two sides interested in signing Rak-Sakyi on loan from Crystal Palace, with the Hatters said to be leading the race.

But this shouldn’t stop a team like Bristol City from trying to sign him. The Robins do need to improve their attacking options in this transfer window, and with someone like Andreas Weimann leaving the club, Rak-Sakyi could be a perfect replacement.

The Palace winger would bring that flair and creative spark the club has missed, especially last season, and he could be a solution to the void they need to fill from seeing Scott Twine return to Burnley.

Rak-Sakyi hasn’t played in the Championship before, but he produced some excellent numbers while in League One, and there is no reason why he couldn’t do the same again for a team that will look to play attacking football under Manning.

Max Dean

Max Dean is likely going to be a player who is on the radar of a few Championship clubs this summer after his impressive campaign with MK Dons.

Dean is only 20, but he had an excellent 2023/24 campaign, as he netted 16 goals in 31 League Two appearances, which included the play-offs.

As well as scoring in the league, the forward also got on the scoresheet a few times in the cup competitions the Dons played in, making him a key part of the club’s attack.

Dean was at Leeds United earlier in his career but moved to MK Dons to start playing first-team football, a move that has worked out well for the player.

He may have produced this tally in League Two, but he is someone that will have impressed teams, and he could be the type of player that a team like Bristol City takes a risk on as they look to improve their forward line for the now and the future.

The Robins could potentially lose Tommy Conway this summer – amid links to Celtic, Rangers, and Wolves – and with them scoring just 53 goals last season, the lowest in the top 11 of the league, it is clear they need to improve in that area of the pitch.

Dean may not be the answer right now, but he is someone who seemingly will only get better, and he could be similar to what they had in Twine, a player who can work under Manning and develop his game more, which would result in him becoming a better player.

Macauley Langstaff

Rak-Sakyi and Dean are more on the youthful side, so Manning may also want to add someone a little more established and this is where Macauley Langstaff could come in.

Langstaff is another forward who has been impressing for a couple of seasons now at Notts County, and while he has been playing in League Two, he seems like a player who sooner or later will be playing in a higher division.

The 27-year-old scored 27 goals in 46 league appearances last season, and while he is still under contract until the summer of 2027, he could be a player that is sold this summer.

Langstaff could be an excellent addition to a team like Bristol City and a £1.5 million transfer fee was previously touted.
