Arsenal are preparing to part ways with Jakub Kiwior, who is set to join FC Porto, while the club plans to bring in Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen as his replacement.

The transfer arrangements are expected to be similar, with both moves structured as loans that include obligations to buy. Arsenal believe this strategy will not only allow Kiwior to secure more regular playing time but also strengthen their own squad with a defender they consider to be an upgrade.

Kiwior’s Contribution and Porto Opportunity

Since joining the Gunners, Kiwior has proven to be a reliable backup option, stepping in effectively whenever William Saliba or Gabriel were unavailable. His composure and defensive awareness have made him a trusted figure in moments of need, ensuring stability across the back line.

Despite his positive contributions, Kiwior now feels it is time to play regularly, a key factor behind his departure. At FC Porto, he is expected to feature more frequently, giving him the opportunity to further develop his career and demonstrate his qualities at the highest level. This move is seen as beneficial for both the player and the Portuguese club, who will gain a dependable defender with valuable Premier League experience.

Hincapie’s Arrival and Statistical Comparison

On the other side of the deal, Hincapie has expressed his desire to test himself in the Premier League. The young defender views Arsenal as a club where he can challenge for game time at the top level, and the Gunners are pleased to welcome him to the Emirates.

The question remains whether Hincapie represents an improvement on Kiwior. According to Football Insider, both players showcase strengths in different aspects of their defensive game. In the Premier League last season, Kiwior averaged 4.59 clearances and 2.34 headed clearances per 90 minutes, while Hincapie’s numbers were 3.37 and 1.65 respectively. However, Hincapie outperformed Kiwior in other key areas, averaging 1.35 successful tackles, 0.34 blocks and 1.08 interceptions per 90, compared to Kiwior’s 0.64, 0.16 and 0.48.

These figures suggest that each player excels in different defensive attributes, with Kiwior proving stronger aerially and Hincapie more effective in ground challenges and interceptions. Arsenal’s decision to pursue Hincapie reflects a desire to enhance their defensive versatility and increase competition within the squad.

Both defenders are clearly talented, and with these moves, Arsenal appear to have struck a balance between accommodating Kiwior’s ambitions and reinforcing their own defensive line.
