The 19 year old who has already tasted first team football with the English giants was a stellar performer for the City B side, and is still very much highly regarded by Pep Guardiola.

“It’s great to be here.” Celtic’s latest signing told Celtic TV. “It’s such a big club and I’m happy to come here, play in front of the fans and play for the team. This is a big opportunity. I want to come here and show my talent and my levels. It’ll be good for me to come and hopefully help the team to win the league again and do well in Europe.”

Brendan Rodgers added: “I am really pleased we have been able to bring Jahmai to Celtic, and I believe he will be an important, quality addition to our squad. Jahmai is a quick, dominant centre half. He is a strong defender but can also move the ball forward very well as we progress through the pitch.

“I know Jahmai is excited about this move and bringing him to the club creates even more competition which will only benefit us. I am sure he will settle in well with the squad as we get ready for the matches we have coming up at home and abroad.”

Jahmai clearly will add great strength and depth to our defence, and won’t be here to just make up the numbers, you can be sure of that.

We have a big campaign ahead of us competing in four competitions and will need all the resources we have to compete on all fronts efficiently.

Cameron Carter Vickers picked up one knock too many last term and that was mainly down to playing constantly due to a lack of quality cover at the back, but young Jahmai will be seen as the man to solve that problem and will play his fair share of games to give CCV a much needed rest now and again.

Folk may scoff at a ‘loan’ signing, but if they have the required quality who cares? Jahmai certainly has the quality and ability to fit into Brendan’s system and will serve us well this coming season.

Now let’s focus on getting more quality additions in the door, that’s a must.
