It marked a significant decline from his key role in the treble-winning campaign just two years ago, and this latest report, as well as the imminent arrival of Rayan Cherki, will almost certainly bring an end to his four years working under Pep Guardiola.

The City boss has insisted there is no issue with Grealish, and was full of praise for the England star last month, saying: "Of course, Jack has to play.
