Speaking in an interview with Cadena SER (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Villarreal veteran midfielder Dani Parejo has criticised the behaviour of Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. stating that the Brazilian must learn to curb himself when provoked.

Vinicius has been in the limelight this week after his emotional press conference while away with the Brazilian national team regarding his battle against racism.

The 23-year-old winger is a constant target of opposition players while he has also been subjected to racist abuse by some sections of supporters of the opponent clubs.

Some in the media have bizarrely blamed Vinicius and his actions on the pitch to justify the vile treatment he has received in the past.

Now, Parejo has spoken up on the matter suggesting that the Brazilian is a special player without a doubt but needs to work on his behaviour while trying not to pay heed to what others say.

“For me personally, Vinicius seems to me to be an extraordinary player with impressive abilities and it’s true that I haven’t seen myself in this scenario and I think it’s a little bit to do with the way each one of us is,” he said.

“We players have to dedicate ourselves to playing and not to taking into account what people say.”

Drawing on his own experience with Valencia star Jose Gaya, Parejo added: “I’ve given Gaya a hard time, Gaya has given me a hard time and I’ve shared a room with him. Afterwards, we would go for dinner and there was no problem.

“The thing is that Vinicius seems to be all over the place. I think it’s a learning process that he should work on because when you play for Real Madrid there’s a special atmosphere at every ground and they always pick on the players,” he added.

Touching upon his past experiences of having received bad treatment from opposition fans, Parejo added that Vinicius was wrong in some aspects about how he conducted himself and must improve.

“I’ve gone to fields and they call me a drunkard or something else and I don’t get in people’s faces, I don’t make gestures. It’s not necessary. The footballer must be above that and I personally believe that in certain behaviours he is wrong,” he said.
