Carlton Palmer believes that Reading FC supporters will remain frustrated until any takeover is completed amid the club's recent update on the situation.

The Royals released a statement which said that the process to complete a takeover "remains ongoing" but that the transaction is proving to be a "complicated and lengthy process."

Despite this, both the selling and buying parties are keen to complete the deal at the earliest opportunity, which will be a welcome boost for Reading supporters to hear, but they'll be wary as they've had plenty of false dawns in recent months.

Palmer believes that the Royals faithful won't be getting carried away by this latest update, and after seeing a proposed takeover from Rob Couhig fall through earlier this season, he believes that Reading supporters may still be sceptical until any takeover is completed.

Former England midfielder Palmer has sympathy for the Reading fan base, who have had plenty of false dawns in recent times, and believes that they won't be celebrating until any takeover is completed.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Palmer said: "News coming out of Reading FC is that both buying and selling parties are still committed to the takeover.

“Is this good news, or will fans still be frustrated? I think fans will still be frustrated. Until the deal is ratified, how many times have Reading supporters heard that there’s exclusivity or that a takeover is well down the line and nothing has happened?

“It’s frustrating for them, and I believe the supporters will still remain hopeful and still be positive that a deal can be struck to help the football club, but I don’t think they’ll be getting overexcited until the deal is ratified.

“That’s unfortunate, but that’s the truth as we’ve been here before, and it’s really disheartening for the supporters and for the manager and the players too, because they just want it sorted.

“They want to kick on, they want to do well because they’ve got some good players, and they could do really good things.

“Look at them, the manager has done an unbelievable job with them, and they’re on 27 points, level with the play-offs with all the problems off the field. It’s magnificent, so hopefully, this deal will go through, but the fans won’t get overly excited until it crosses the line."

Reading's financial situation is very precarious under Dai Yongge, and it remains to be seen how much money there is for the club to keep going before any takeover is completed.

The Sell Before We Dai protest group have pointed to the fact that a statement on October 7th stated that funding will be available until "the transaction's intended completion", while the recent statement didn't provide the same reassurance.

While Reading are currently thriving on the pitch under Ruben Selles, who has them in the play-off mix somehow, things aren't as rosy off it, and supporters will continue to be worried until a takeover is completed.
