Liverpool have announced the club-record signing of striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
It brings to an end a long-running transfer saga, with Liverpool finally getting their man in a £125m deal.
Isak’s move is also a British record fee, eclipsing the £116m sum the Reds spent to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer.
The Sweden international scored 62 goals in 109 games in all competitions for Newcastle after signing for the club in 2022 from Real Sociedad.
He had made clear his desire to leave the Magpies, however, and becomes Liverpool’s seventh signing of what has been a busy summer.
“It’s been a long journey to get here,” Isak said. “But I’m super happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”
Marc Guehi will not be following Isak in joining Liverpool, however, with his proposed move from Crystal Palace falling through.
Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott has left the club to join Aston Villa on loan, who also have the obligation to buy the England youngster.
