Jerry Yates only joined Swansea City in last year’s summer transfer window after being at Blackpool for three years, but he could be on the move again, with Derby County closing in on a deal for the striker.

It was reported earlier in the window that Swansea could move Yates on this summer if they receive the right offer for the 27-year-old, according to a report from Wales Online.

Luke Williams has touched on the fact that Swansea need more natural finishers at the club ahead of next season, suggesting that he intends to add another forward to his squad. The Swans' current striking options include Yates and Liam Cullen, who scored 15 goals in the Championship between them this season, as well as Mykola Kukharevych, who netted just once.

It now appears as though Yates is on the move, but not in a deal that is going to see Swansea receive a transfer fee for the player, with Derby now closing in on the loan signing of the Swansea centre-forward.

Derby secured promotion to the second tier by sealing automatic promotion, and Paul Warne will be keen to add to his side over the coming months, as he will want to try and avoid a battle at the bottom end of the table.

The latest regarding Yates comes from Football Insider, who state that the Rams have beaten Blackburn Rovers, QPR, and Stoke City to the signature of Yates.

Jerry Yates move to Derby County welcomed as a solid addition

Derby completed the signing of Ben Osborn this week, and could be about to strike a deal for their second summer signing in the form of Yates.

And according to FLW's Derby County fan pundit Shaun Woodward, Yates would be a good addition - especially on loan, where they an essentially try before they potentially buy.

"I'm excited about us signing Yates," Shaun told Football League World.

"I think on a loan deal is a good call, as he didn't have the best of seasons last season for Swansea.

"He still got some important goals for them, and in the three years prior to that at Blackpool, he was very prolific for them. He scored over 20 goals for them in League One and then double figures for them in the Championship. "He's a good age as well - a really good age. He's 27 and should be coming into his prime now.

"I think it's a great loan move and if he does well at Derby, then hopefully we could sign him permanently. If he doesn't do well, then we give him back. I think it's a win-win."

Jerry Yates could be a steal for Derby County on loan

Although Yates didn't feature all that regularly with Warne at Rotherham United, there is still that familiarity which could see the striker get back to his best at Pride Park, after a disappointing spell with the Swans so far.

Yates may not have hit the heights at Swansea last season, but he is still a good player and a striker who has shown he can score in the Championship.

The Rams need to make sure they have goals in their team, and adding someone like Yates when they have lost Dwight Gayle and Martyn Waghorn has plenty of logic to it.

The forward will have something to prove, but if Warne can get the best out of him, then this could turn out to be an excellent addition for the club and a steal, as they could be about to capture his services in a loan deal.
