Italy and Germany, winners of a combined eight world cups, will face each other in the Nations League quarter-finals in March 2025 after the conclusion of the knock-out draw on Friday afternoon.
Here is how the teams compare from their all-time head-to-head record.
Italy and Germany have faced each other on 37 occasions since their first ever meeting all the way back on New Year’s Day of 1923.
The Azzurri have won 15 of those 37 encounters, Germany have won nine and the other 13 have resulted in draws, which means that Italy will still be the most successful of the two teams on head-to-head, even if they lose both of their quarter-final matches in March.
Italy are also the most successful of the two nations over their last 10 encounters. They have won three, Germany two over that period. Five matches officially resulted in draws, although one of those went to penalties in EURO 2016 and was eventually won by Germany.
The Azzurri and Die Mannschaft have only met twice over the last eight years, however.
The most recent encounter came in the 2022-23 edition of the Nations League. Roberto Mancini and his team drew their home group stage match 1-1, while Germany claimed a 5-2 victory in Mönchengladbach a few weeks later.
